Record prices were recorded at the CMW Mohair auction in Port Elizabeth this week, when the market indicator rose by 8.2% to reach R142,94 per kilogram.
Louw de Wet from Rietbron obtained R425 per kilogram for a bale of 25 micron winter kids hair, while Blair Henderson from Steytlerville's young goats hair sold for R325,50 per kg.
Ray en Gary Hobson from Steytlerville's bale of 28.7 micron winter young goats hair was sold for R265,10 per kg.
These were the highest prices ever paid in the different classes.
Mohair South Africa says the high prices were as a result of a combination of good quality and continued global demand for all types of mohair.
More than 199-thousand kg was on offer, of which 98% was sold.
