The Port Elizabeth branch of the SA weather service reports that good rains were recorded in parts of Nelson Mandela Bay's catchment areas up until eight o'clock on Wednesday morning.
Weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson says the 70 mm measured at Kareedouw is fantastic news for the Metro's catchment area.
However, the 14 mm reported from Joubertina is disappointing.
Sampson says with the Kouga Dam only receiving 1.2 mm and Patensie 1.8 mm, it's clear that the drought is NOT broken and there is no reason to celebrate.
He says with the festive season around the corner there will be an influx of visitors to the Metro, especially towns such as Jeffreys Bay which also feeds of the NMBM dams.
Sampson says, therefore, consumption of water will increase putting an even bigger strain on our system.
In order to continue to sustainably supply water to all consumers, the public at large is encouraged to play their part and reduce consumption significantly.
A Municipal delegation led by Executive Mayor Mongameli Bobani is planning an oversight visit to the Impofu and other dams in the system on Thursday.
