Two people have been confirmed dead after a tornado ripped through New Hanover in Kwazulu Natal on Tuesday night.
ER 24 paramedics said that the fatalities were reported in the Mpolweni settlement near Wartburg where 20 other people were treated of injuries.
Spokesperson, Ross Campbell, says many animals were also reported to have been injured or killed and power lines are also down.
He says a woman was also treated for serious injuries after losing control of her vehicle during the storm.
Rescue efforts had to be called off just before midnight but will resume on Wednesday morning.
