Buffalo City Metro officials are still coping with the effects of heavy rain over the past few days.
Several roads in East London still remain flooded with reports of one road on Gonubie breaking up.
The head of the city's Disaster Management, Owen Bekker, says councillors in nine wards are busy assessing whether people need to be evacuated from those areas.
"They might have to be accommodated in community halls tonight. The predictions in terms of weather are that heavier rains will subside towards evening. It should start clearing up by tonight"
Meanwhile, Bekker says they're also monitoring the Nahoon Dam which is expected to start overflowing soon.
"Nahoon Dam will reach full capacity. We are monitoring low level areas in case the water levels increase "he added
