Rain brings small relief in Algoa Country

There's been a minor uptick in the combined level of Nelson Mandela Bay's supply dams.

According to weekly figures released on 29 January, the combined capacity stands at 25.67 percent, up from 24.98 percent a week ago.

According to the latest figures, there's been small, positive changes to the levels of the Kouga Dam, which is now at 9.23 percent of capacity, up from 7.15 percent a week ago.

Churchill and Mpofu Dams were slightly down while the Groendal Dam remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, Grahamstown received some welcome relief from the dry conditions with 37 millimetres measured over the City this past weekend.

Weather Office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, said that George recorded 13 mm, East London 9mm and Bhisho and Mthatha 12 millimetres apiece.

He said the weekend did not yield much promising rain for Nelson Mandela Bay but he said unofficial figures from Misgund showed between 50 and 70 millimetres.

Sampson said in an earlier interview that official figures from the Metro's catchment area show between 15 and 25 millimetres of rain.

He says while too early to say for sure, current models are showing that some more rain can be expected this coming week
