The SA Weather Office said scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape from Thursday, accompanied by cold weather.
Weather Office spokesperson, Garth Sampson, said a steep upper air trough, a surface trough, and a ridging surface high pressure, will bring “heavy downpours” in some places.
He said severe thunderstorms are also possible, with strong winds, excessive lightning, and hail.
Sampson cautioned that this could result in “damage to property, disruption of power supply and possibly injuries to livestock and livelihood.”
He said cold conditions are expected to spread in from the west on Thursday, persisting into Saturday in the east.
“Very cold conditions are expected over the north-eastern high lying areas on Friday, with possible light snow over the mountains in the Senqu (Barkly East area) and Elundini ( Maclear area),” he added.
Sampson said, however, that not much rain is expected in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro catchment area, where the combined dam levels have plunged to 13% of total capacity.
