A raging veld fire tore through Settlers Park in the heartland of Port Elizabeth on Monday.
AlgoaFM's Tove Cane was in the area, and said the flames were threatening homes in the lower avenues of Walmer - particularly around 5th avenue.
Police spokersperson Alwin Labans is at the scene with PE fire officials and says the Settlers Park fire is under control and that there there is no need to evacuate residents.
Labans told AlgoaFM news he had been assured by the PE fire department that the fires burning in the vicinity of Victoria Drive and the Arlington tip were also under control.
Officials request motorists to be cautious when going through Targetkloof as the smoke is very thick in the area.
