RAF recipient kidnapped in Tsolo - dropped off in Beaufort West

A 44-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Tsolo Magistrates Court on Friday for her alleged involvement in a kidnapping.

A spokesperson for the Hawks, Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, says the suspect reportedly works as a clerk for a law firm in Mthatha and targeted a man who received a pay-out from the Road Accident Fund (RAF)

He says the victim received a pay-out from the suspect's law firm on 2 November last year.

Mhlakuvana says the following day, the suspect went to the man's house in Tsolo, claiming she was owed money.

He says the victim was not at home during the time, but then her boyfriend went to the house pretending to be from the RAF.

According to the Hawks, the victim was ordered to get into his car with his ID book and bank cards before he was driven over 700 km away from his home.

The victim was reportedly forced to make several transactions and cash transfers from his account amounting to R290 000.

Mhlakuvana says the man was eventually released at a petrol station in Beaufort West.

He says they have positively linked the bank clerk to the kidnapping that led to her arrest on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
