Eleven suspects arrested for the deadly shoot-out between taxi rivals in Port St Johns have been released.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the matter was not enrolled on Thursday due to insufficient evidence.
On Tuesday, three guards were shot and killed and six people injured when a gun battle broke out, allegedly over disputes on the taxi routes between Lusikisiki and Port St Johns.
The situation along the particular stretch of the road on the R61 has been tense this week with high police visibility.
Colonel Naidu says at the crime scene 15 firearms consisting of pistols, AK 47s, shotguns, rifles and 328 rounds of ammunition were recovered while three vehicles were also torched.
She says a team of Provincial Organised Crime Investigation detectives are focused on the ongoing investigation.
The suspects were facing charges of murder, attempted murder, malicious property damage, discharging firearms in a built-up municipal area and public violence.
