Some residents of Hornlee in Knysna are threatening to withhold their vote in the May elections as resistance to the installation of water metres by the Municipality continues.
This has led to sporadic protests on the N2 with the latest taking place on Tuesday night.
Residents, under the banner of Hornlee United, say the decision to implement the water metres was a racist one that just targetted communities of colour.
But, Knysna Municipality says the community's resistance is based on misinformation and the view that the devices may be used as a punitive measure.
It says the majority of Hornlee residents have welcomed the installation of the water meters and that approximately 283 water management devices have been installed to date.
Knysna Municipality says the prepaid meters allow residents to manage their consumption better and avoid nasty billing surprises.
Its also assured residents that they will not lose their free monthly water allocation.
According to the municipality, the meters will have several advantages not only for them but also for the consumers
