Knysna residents without access to water and sanitation facilities will receive an early Christmas present this year, thanks to a R9-million allocation by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements to the Knysna Municipality.
Municipal spokesperson, Luna Swart says a survey was conducted in November last year to identify informal settlements where the minimum requirements of 5 households per sanitation facility, and 25 families per water tap, were not met.
Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring says the municipality is committed to bringing basic services to the residents of Knysna as quickly as possible.
She says they aim to assist 753 households with sanitation shortfalls, and will install 88 new taps, which will provide a number of households with water.
