R6m Hemingways movie revamp complete

The R6m upgrade of the movie theatres at Hemingways in East London is complete, offering movie-goers a new, digital experience.  Hemingways issued the following statement on the upgrade.

"As of Friday the 23rd of August, cinema-goers at Movies@Hemingways are assured of a world-class, superior audio and visual experience. The cinema house has gone digital, saying goodbye to the standard 35mm film reels that have been used by cinemas around the world since film began.

All six of Hemingways’ plush and spacious cinemas will be fully-digital, assuring movie-goers of visually-better, crisper, brighter and more colourful pictures. All the screens and sound equipment are also being replaced with high quality systems to deliver an encompassing experience that is currently unrivalled in East London.

The upgrade, to the tune of R6-million, will ensure that Movies@Hemingways remains at the cusp of new trends in the industry, which is in the process of shifting to digital. With film studios moving away from making movies on film, cinemas worldwide willhave to follow suit soon.

Aside from high-definition visuals and premium sound quality, new generation digital systems are also much better for the environment. There are no bulky film reels, no shipping of heavy equipment, and less warehousing.

Hemingways Casino’s Marketing Manage, Neville Austin, says: “We are excited about moving Movies@Hemingways into the new era of cinema. With our new digital equipment and our 3D screens, we can offer people a world class movie-watching experience that can’t be found anywhere else in east London at the moment.

“The world-over, the world of film is changing and it just makes sense for us to do it now rather than waiting. Change is inevitable and we are pleased to be at the forefront of it,” he says.
