Two bags of abalone were seized by Tactical Task Force and Department of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries officials near the Anchor on Port Elizabeth's Marine Drive on Wednesday night.
Tom Schwartz of the Tactical Task Force said the bags contained 204 unshucked abalone - which are still in their shells and 20 shucked abalone.
The value of the abalone is roughly R36 000.
Schwartz said they responded to a tip-off and found three runners or guards in the bush and followed a trail which led to the recovery of the abalone.
He said they confronted two divers who were active in the area but were forced to let them go because they were beyond a certain distance from the recovered abalone.
