A learner from Queens College in Queenstown has died after a group of boys were stung by a swarm of bees.
Eastern Cape Education Department spokesperson, Loyiso Pulumani, says Grade 8 and 9 leaners were on a team building exercise near the Bongolo Dam on Thursday when they were attacked by a swarm of bees.
Several boys and two teachers were stung but one school-boy died as a result.
Eastern Cape education superintendent general, Modidima Mannya, expressed his condolences to the boy's family.
"From the reports I received is that these children were attacked by bees during a team building exercise near the dam on the side of the mountain. One of the learners passed away," he said.
Mannya said two teachers were also injured in the incident.
He also called on everyone to give their support to the school also pledging that the Department would "play its part where necessary to ensure that we provide the proper support to ensure the speedy recovery of the school to normality after the tragice incident."
