Police at Elliotdale in the Eastern Cape have arrested nine school children aged 17 and 18.
They were arrested for allegedly setting fire to their Thongani Junior Secondary School premises in Thongani Village in Elliotdale just outside Mthatha.
Police say they were part of a group of children who were complaining about the poor state of their school building.
Damage cause by the fire is estimated at 200-thousand rands.
The teenagers are due to appear in the Elliotdale Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of arson, public violence and intimidation.
