Nelson Mandela Bay regional ANC Chairperson Nceba Faku has arrived at Walmer Township in Port Elizabeth to address irate residents who are staging a service delivery protest.
A large crowd of up to 1,000 people has gathered at the entrance to the township on the corner of 9th avenue and Buffelsfontein Road.
Seven people have already been arrested on charges of public violence and police had to use a water canon, rubber bullets and gas grenades earlier on Wednesday morning to restore order.
Victoria drive and Buffelsfontein Road from 8th avenue upwards remain no-go areas.
