Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makupula, says the province is ready for the 2015 matric exams.
Addressing the media in East London on Tuesday, Makupula said that there are 92 000 full time and part-time learners registered for this year's exam.
Responding to a question about this year pass rate target, Makupula said that after deliberations they've decided to keep their target at last year's level of 70 percent.
Last year the Eastern Cape had a matric pass rate of 64.9 percent.
Makupula says 70% is attainable, since there was more time in the classroom due to fewer disruptions.
He says discussions are advancing well with respect to the number of teachers that will be needed for 2016.
He added that there was no budget for school nutrition, scholar transport and the temporary education concept and that there are still challenges in the scholar transport system.
