Protests rock Northern Areas

Violent protests have flared up in Booysens Park in Port Elizabeth's  orthern areas for a third straight day.

Police captain Stanley Jarvis says protesters set an Algoa Bus alight in Booysens Park Drive earlier this morning.
They hauled all the commuters out of the bus and burnt down the bus stop as well.

They also burnt tyres and large tree trunks and pelted passing motorists with stones.
Motorists are advised to avoid the areas as well as Stanford Road near Booysens park and William Stemmet Drive.

Jarvis says a splinter group later gathered in Missionvale and started burning tyres and throwing stones in Church Road.

Jarvis told AlgoaFM News that there was a strong police presence in the area. He said police would not tolerate lawlessness and that he expects arrests to be made during the course of the morning.
