East London police are patrolling in Duncan Village following a night of violent service delivery protests in the township.
The protest first broke out in April over a housing debacle between the community and the Buffalo City Municipality.
Metro mayor Zukiswa Ncitha met with the angry community in May but they vowed to continue with the protests as they were not satisfied with the outcomes of the meeting.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Marais says the barricading of road, burning of tyres and stoning of cars on the Ziphunzana by-pass has been recurring since early Thursday morning.
"Last night (Thurs) about 9.30 we were called out Duncan Village again where had to make use of rubber bullets to disperse the crowd who were stoning our vehicles. Since then it was quiet until just around 3am (Fri)."
"Unfortunately for them due to police patrols during the course of the evening we were on them too quick and had road open very quickly," said Marais.
