Classes ground to a halt at the WG Olivier High School in Somerset East on Thursday morning, after parents removed the nearly 600 children from classes.
They were protesting outside the school, over two teachers who have been appointed, but allegedly simply fail to arrive for work.
A member of the school's governing body, Ivan Fillis, says as a result, most children fail the academic year, because one of the subjects affected, is English.
Fillis says parents arrived en masse at the school this morning and are demanding answers from the education department.
"We are currently busy with the protest action at the school due to the fact that there is a shortage of two teachers. The Teachers have been appointed but they never arrived at the school, but they are still getting paid" Fillis said.
