A group of people held a protest calling for bail to be denied to a Nigerian national accused of killing a man in a Port Elizabeth mosque.
Twenty-nine-year-old NMMU student, Mohammad Aliko, has been charged with the murder of wheel-chair bound worshiper, Muhammed Laher, who was beaten and stabbed to death in the South End mosque earlier this month.
Testifying in Aliko's bail hearing before a packed court-room on Monday, investigating officer Lorraine Olivier, told of an earlier argument between Aliko and Laher and that he had several run-in's with other foreign nationals who worship at the same mosque.
Aliko's lawyer, Ryno Scholtz, told the court that his client was not a flight risk and should be granted bail because, as a student, he's being severley prejudiced by being in prison.
The victim's sister, Khatija Laher, said a petition was presented to authorities calling for bail to be denied.
The case was postponed to Tuesday for final argument in the bail application.
