There is a strong police presence in Grahamstown at the moment where hundreds of protesters gathered outside the local police station earlier on Thursday afternoon.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says protesters tried to loot shops belonging to foreign nationals and demanded the release of over 80 people arrested for public violence yesterday
Police managed to disperse the crowds who were loitering in Beaufort street. Three helicopters were seen circling over head.
Govender says these attacks on foreign nationals had nothing to do with the current student Protest at the Rhodes University, which has been peaceful.
