The Department of Basic Education, together with the Eastern Cape Department of Education and UNICEF will launch the Girls and Boys Education Movement on Saturday - a programme focused on empowering learners, at the former Griffiths Mxenge College outside King Williams Town.
The provincial education department says in a statement the movement will equip learners with leadership development, life skills and sport organizing skills to become youth leaders, while also assisting in delivering excellent school sport results.
It says all these will help contribute towards improved school attendance and health seeking behaviour in learners.
500 learners from different schools in the King Williams Town District will be taking part in the first programme.
