Eastern Cape man jailed for life for raping his own daughters

A fifty-five year old man has been sentenced to two life sentences in the Mthatha High Court for the rape of his two young daughters.

The man was found guilty earlier this week for raping his two-year-old and six-year-old daughters between February 2009 and February 2011 at their Ncambedlana farms in the Mthatha area.

During the trial the girls mother testified that when she became aware of the rapes she took her daughters to her home parents home Qumbu but her husband snatched them away again.

The incidents were reported by a neighbour and the children have subsequently been removed from the care of their mother.

NPA spokesperson, Nathi Mncube, says they believe the sentence will go a long way in showing rapists and would-be rapists that their actions can never be tolerated.

"We welcome the sentence , we hope this severe sentence will serve as a deterrent to would be offenders. It is our belief that only through heavy sentences that we can combat this scourge in our country where parents are raping there own kids." says Mncube.
