A private investigator has been appointed by a Hartenbos family, following an extensive search for 53-year-old Desmond Share who disappeared without a trace on Tuesday.
He was reported missing by his family at the Da Gamaskop police station after he left home to do work in Herbertsdale but never returned.
Police are investigating cases of kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.
Share's vehicle was last spotted on Tuesday evening at a petrol station near Buffelsjagsrivier outside Swellendam.
Money had been withdrawn from Share's account on two occasions, while CCTV footage at the petrol station showed two occupants in Share's vehicle, a white Ford Ranger bakkie, on Tuesday.
His friend, Benna van den Bergh, said search teams also found glasses at a scene in Herbertsdale and suspect that it might be his.
Da Gamaskop CPF has asked the community's assistance to help locate Share and to be on the lookout for the vehicle between Swellendam and Cape Town.
Anyone with information can contact the nearest police station.
