The Department of Correctional Services says scores of prison inmates, parolees and probationers, have begun a massive clean-up operation at schools across the Eastern Cape.
Provincial Department spokesperson, Zama Feni, says this is in preparation for the new school year which starts next week.
He says the Eastern Cape Department of Correctional Services will provide the labour services of offenders but schools will be required to buy material themselves.
Feni says it is through programmes of this nature that offenders make a meaningful contribution to the communities that they have wronged.
"Up until the 24th of January, as a department in the EC region we will get offenders cleaning up the schools. We have 82 schools to be cleaned in preparation for the news school year' he said.
