A civil lawsuit brought by 231 inmates from St Albans prison will resume in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Monday.
The prisoners have brought a civil claim for damages against the Minister of Correctional Services, claiming they had been tortured during a mass assault over a 5 day period after a warder was killed in 2005.
A new witness was called to the stand on Friday, Cornelius Abersalie, the former head of Embongweni Correctional Centre in Kokstad at the time.
Salie was questioned with respect to the medical condition of the first prisoner who testified in the matter, Xolani Siko
Siko's lawyer, Bruce Dykes asked Salie whether he had noticed if his client's hands had been broken when he was transfered from St Albans to Embongweni shortly after the murder.
Salie said that he did not take notice of individuals, but rather addressed the inmates as a group.
He added that if a prisoner was seriously injured, he would be sent back to his centre of origin but this did not happen in Siko's case.
Salie will continue testifying next week.
