President Zuma opens Steve Biko Centre in King Williams Town


 President Jacob Zuma will officially open the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg, King Williams Town on Friday.

Earlier he laid a wreath at the grave of the slain Black Consciousness Leader.

Biko died after being tortured while in police custody in 1977.

Algoa FM News reporter Zona Mpendulo was with the president.

" Today the community of King Williams town are gathered in the Steve Biko centre that is being opened today. The president and the provincial Premier Noxolo Kiviet went on a walk to the grave of Steve Biko and they laid a wreath there. The President will deliver a keynote address giving a history of the centre. It's mandate is to translate global interest in black consciousness and the legacy of the anti-apartheid activist into a developmental resource centre for the region"
