Preservation order granted against Herbalist who defrauded unsuspecting lady in EL

The East London Magistrates' Court has granted the Asset Forfeiture Unit a preservation order against a herbalist for R411 000, which was allegedly defrauded from an unsuspecting woman.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Tsepo Ndwalaza says Buyiswa Kakaza was allegedly defrauded by a herbalist, who advertised his services in the 'Daily Sun' newspaper.

He says the herbalist is known only as Father Anthony, and he promised to solve people's financial problems in short periods of time through a so-called "investment scheme".

Kakaza initially started with a relatively small "investment" of R3,000 but eventually lost R411 000 after she sold her house.

Ndwalaza explain what the authorities normally do in cases where suspects have enriched themselves.

"We envoke Chapter 6 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act and go straight for the money that the person acquired. We then go for a criminal prosecution"

Ndwalaza has advised people not to fall for schemes.
