BUTTERWORTH, December 13 (ANA) – A 43-year-old pastor accused of rape appeared briefly in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
Captain Jackson Manatha said the pastor appeared in court on Monday. His case was postponed to Thursday for formal bail application. He was remanded in custody.
The pastor was arrested on 9 December, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman.
Manatha said on Wednesday [7 December 2016] at about 16:30 the pastor took an ill 18-year-old woman to a spot under a bridge, where he “washed her” with “tradition medicine”.
“He allegedly touched her private parts.” He then took her back to her home.
Later that day the pastor fetched the woman and drove to a shack at Ibika Township, Butterworth. He allegedly told the young woman to undress and to lie on the bed. The pastor then allegedly raped the woman.
Manatha said the rape accused took the woman back to her home. She told her sister about the alleged rape and also reported the matter to the police.
