The Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, Francois Beukman, will attend a memorial service on Tuesday for the five policemen of the Ngcobo Police Station who were killed in a deadly attack last week.
Beukman encouraged the local community to give the necessary support to the members at the police station during this difficult time.
He says the incident has again highlighted the dangerous environment in which policemen and women operate, and the urgent need for the SAPS to deal with violent organised crime as a matter of priority.
The Portfolio Committee will meet with the National Police Commissioner in the next two weeks to get a briefing on the incident.
Beukman says critical matters that came to the fore in the Ngcobo-attack with relation to crime intelligence, technology, tactical training and the security measures at police stations will come under scrutiny at the meeting.
