The Port Elizabeth High Court has sentenced a man to 20-years imprisonment for rape and an additional life sentence for the murder of a teenage girl.
Kayalethu Madyo was sentenced on Friday after earlier pleading guilty to raping and kiling 17-year old Cindy Gamande.
Her body was found in a cemetery behind Walmer township earlier this year.
Post mortem results showed that the girl had been strangled to death, her injuries included a bruised skull and swollen lungs.
Judge Nambitha Dambuza concluded Madyo was determined to rape the girl and she died a long, painful and humiliating death.
Dambuza added that the victim was a promising student, she had obtained a bursary from a German organisation and was well on her way with her studies.
Dambuza said that such predatory conduct will not be tolerated.
