Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 41-year old man for the illegal possession of perlemoen.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the man was arrested at his house in Sherwood on Tuesday afternoon, following a raid.
She says police confiscated 80kg of perlemoen with an estimated street value of R30 000.
The suspect has a previous conviction, having been found guilty of the illegal possesion of rhino horn in 2012 in Gauteng.
He will appear in court on the perlemoen charge on Thursday.
