Port Alfred teenager hailed a hero after sea rescue

A Port Alfred teenager has emerged as a hero after he helped rescue a German family caught in a rip current at East beach.

The NSRI's Craig Lambinon, says the father, Ludder Grosse-Heiderman, got into difficulty on Tuesday afternoon and when his two children went to help, they too were caught up in the rip current.

He says 17 Jaco Rossouw, who was on the beach, waded into the water and began shouting instructions to them to swim parallel to the beach to get out of the rip current.

Lambinon says they followed the teenagers advice and the daughter managed to tow her father across the beachfront and out of the rip current to safety.

He says they were unharmed but the father was treated for shock.

Lambinon commended young Rossouw for coming to the assistance of the family.
