Five suspects are due to appear in court in Port Alfred on Monday after robbing an off-duty policeman over the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said that the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested over the weekend.
She said items of clothing that the policeman was wearing as well as his cellphone and wallet were taken from him at knifepoint.
“He was not injured. During his report to the local SAPS this morning, members of the Port Alfred K9 unit were alerted,” said Govender.
“They swiftly responded and found all five suspects at a home in Nemato. All items were recovered as well as some of the cash that was taken,” she said.
"Our members need to be vigilant both whilst on and off duty. Attacks on our members remain a priority and the speedy arrest by our K9 unit of the perpetrators are commendable," said Port Alfred Cluster Commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender.
