A 23-year-old Port Alfred man has been arrested for housebreaking and theft, after two rented homes were broken into and personal belongings were stolen.
Police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the thief thought it was time he acquired two wrist watches and a cellphone, but in the process, left a trail that led police straight to his house.
He says Port Alfred police members on duty responded and began tracing the stolen phone to a nearby house in Dove Lane.
Upon arrival, they found the known suspect lying in bed.
Police dialled the number of the missing cellphone and it rang underneath the mattress.
Tonjeni says during a search, two watches and another cellphone were found in the suspect's possession.
He is expected to appear in Port Alfred Magistrates' Court on Monday.
