The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union POPCRU says its deeply saddened by the untimely passing of eight Correctional Services officers, who were killed in a road accident while on their way to work on Tuesday morning at the Buffelsjagrivier Correctional Centre in the Western Cape.
The minibus they were travelling in collided with a Ford bakkie and a truck about 4km outside Swellendam, leaving three others injured.
POPCRU says its shocked to have lost 8 dedicated members who contributed immensely in the country's rehabilitation programme, and are appalled by the escalating numbers of road crashes and fatalities on South Africa's roads.
