The ANC in the Eastern Cape has expressed its sadness and shock following two fatal accidents in the Eastern Cape on Saturday that claimed the lives of 43 people.
Provincial secretary of the ANC Oscar Mabuyane says they will engage with government to look into how the families of the deceased can be assisted.
35 people were killed when the bus they were traveling lost control on the R-408 between Willowvale and Butterworth on Saturday.
The other accident took place on the R-61 between Cradock and Graaff Reinet.
Nine people were killed when their taxi lost control and rolled down an embankment.
Several people from both accidents were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.
The Democratic Alliance has also extended its condolensces to the families of those killed and injured in the two accidents.
The DA also called on Transport MEC Weziwe Tikana to sort out the red tape regarding Resolution 14 of 2009.
It says a shift-system needs to get up and running with immediate effect to implement the long overdue 24-hour law enforcement of Eastern Cape roads in order to reduce horror-accidents such as the ones experienced in the province at the weekend.
