Justice Minister, Michael Masutha launched a project to exhume the remains of political prisoners who were hanged and buried at Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Among those who were hanged was Eastern Cape Sactu secretary, Vuyisile Mini, who was charged with 17 counts of sabotage and the murder of a police informer in 1963.
Mini together with anti-apartheid fighters Zinakile Mkhaba and Wilson Khayingo were convicted and hanged in November 1964.
The three became the first three members of the ANC's military wing to be executed by the apartheid government.
Justice Ministry spokesperson, Mthunzi Mhaga, says 130 political prisoners were hanged at the gallows of what was known as Pretoria Central prison.
