Policeman in custody after fatal shooting in Southern Cape

A Port Elizabeth policeman is in custody in George's Conville police station following a shooting incident on the N-2 near Thembalethu Township which left one person dead.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says the off-duty policeman was hitching a lift to Port Elizabeth yesterday morning when he was confronted by a group of men.
He says its alleged that there was a scuffle between the policeman and the men.
"One of the guys or some of them allegedly grabbed his bag from him, whereafter he pulled his service pistol. We have opened a murder case and it has been handed over to IPID" he said
Pojie says the name of the 46-year-old deceased from Thembalethu has not yet been released.
