Police watchdog to investigate East London police shooting

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the death of a criminal suspect who was shot and killed by a policeman in Gonubie in East London.
Acting IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa, says it is alleged that the man had tried to escape from the Gonubie police station on Wednesday.
"We have registered the case it will be allocated with an investigator who will start with an investigation as soon as possible. It is alleged that the victim was trying to escape that's when the whole shooting incident took place at Gonubie community service centre. SAPS have further opened an inquest docket." says Langa.
Meanwnhile, AlgoaFM News has learnt that the suspect was being transported by police from Gonubie to East London police station.
The suspect was reportedly arrested for a spate of robberies in the Gonubie area.
