Eastern Cape police said attempts to retrieve the body of a biker from below Bloukrans Bridge in the Tsitsikamma proved challenging and will resume on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Storms River SAPS were alerted on Monday afternoon to a motorbike with a GP registration number that was parked partially in bushes near the Bloukrans Bridge.
She said a search was immediately conducted to locate the owner.
Naidu said police, using binoculars, spotted something “colourful” in the bushes below which raised suspicion.
Members of the Gqeberha K9 Search and Rescue Unit, SAPS Diving Unit, Metro EMS from Gqeberha and Sarah Baartman District, as well as Storms River SAPS were deployed to the bridge early on Tuesday morning.
“The Search and Rescue team managed to abseil to a certain level where they could confirm that there was a body of a person in the bushes below. Attempts to abseil to the bottom from the 216m bridge were challenging, and the mission was temporarily aborted pending air support,” she said.
Naidu said the identity of the person is being withheld until the body is retrieved and pending formal identification.
