The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA) is demanding accountability for East London's Enyobeni tavern tragedy, having called on the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) to investigate.
The public health NGO filed the complaint with the Commission three days after the June tragedy in which 21 young tavern-goers died under mysterious circumstances.
Communications officer, Terri Fontein, says that five months down the line, their concerned parents still have more questions than answers.
She says it's cold comfort that the tavern owners, Vuyokazi and Siyakhangela Ndevu, have only been charged with selling alcohol to underage patrons.
Fontein says SAAPA is working tirelessly to ensure that their trial, starting on the 25th of November, brings closure to the parents and accountability for the loss of 21 young lives.
She says a slap on the wrist for the tavern owners is simply not good enough.
SAAPA has also been in contact with the victims' families and they want an update from the National Prosecuting Authority on whether or not further charges will be added.
