A police investigator was the first witness to give evidence in the Knysna Magistrate's court on Monday, in the trial of six men allegedly involved in an illegal dog fight two years ago.
Warrant Officer Marius van Huysteen told the court about a raid he had intiated on a smallholding in Ladywood outside Plettenberg Bay following a tip-off.
He provided graphic details of the injuries to two pitbulls who were found fighting in a wooden cage.
The six men, from Port Elizabeth, Queenstown and East London, have pleaded not guilty to four charges related to the contravention of the Animal Protection Act.
In May, three other co-accused pleaded guilty and were sentenced to fines.
In July, another man whose property was used for the fights, was sentenced to 18 months correctional supervision under house arrest and also fined.
