Police seek assistance in solving murder cases

Uitenhage police are seeking help from the public in solving three cold case murders.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said Monday that they're seeking information on the murder of 26-year-old Phumlani Veli, who died after he was stabbed during a robbery in Kwanobuhle in February 2017.

He said Veli was walking with a female friend in an open space near Ngeyakhe Street when they were attacked.

"It was alleged that the two men, both armed with knives approached the couple and demanded cellphones.  After not getting anything from the couple, it was alleged that one of the suspects stabbed the deceased several times and he later died in hospital," Nkohli said

The second case relates to the double murder of Hans Swartbooi and Lydia Johnson which took place in August 2015.

"The bodies were found lying in the bushes near Gunguluza Area 10, KwaNobuhle in Uitenhage," Nkohli said

"In all these cases, no suspects were ever arrested and the police are urging anyone with information to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Gcinikhaya Ntliziywana at 041 978 8800 or 082 319 9223," Nkohli concluded
