Hardly any rain in catchment areas as temperatures drop to below freezing


The Southern Coastal regions of the Eastern Cape received welcome rainfall in the past 24 hours with Plettenberg Bay measuring 39 millimetres and Port Elizabeth 27 millimetres.

The catchment areas of Nelson Mandela Bay's main supply dams received a lot less by comparison, with Joubertina measuring 4 millimetres, Kareedouw NIL,  Kouga Dam  1 milletre and Patensie and Uitenhage 5.

Molteno was the coldest place in the Eastern Cape on Monday morning at -10 C followed by Barkley East at -9,  Jamestown -8 and Alimal North -7C.

The mercury also dipped under freezing at Cradock & Elliot at -3 degrees and Queenstown at -2.

Hogsback and Graaff-Reinet were blanketed in snow yesterday as the first significant cold front of winter moved through the Eastern Cape.
