BCM closes 10 illegal taverns and arrest 51 for drunk driving

Authorities in Buffalo City shut down ten illegal taverns and places of entertainment in a weekend swoop with the SA Police Service.

In a statement on Sunday, Buffalo City Municipality said that the crackdown began on Friday with law enforcement operations targeting establishment selling liquor illegally.

Ten of the 11 places visited in the CBD were closed for not having business licenses.

“The only place that was found to be compliant was the Zooming lounge in Stephenson street,” the Municipality said.

During operations on Saturday 51 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Buffalo City Municipality said these operations were “part of our commitment to servicing our citizens and being a City Hard at Work in ensuring that we ensure a safe and secure environment whilst providing an efficient and responsive service against lawlessness.”
