A man is expected to appear in the East London Magistrates Court on Friday following a random shooting incident that led to a hostage situation in a shop in Cambridge.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says the police officer was jogging near a retail store in Cambridge West when a 48-year-old man starting firing shots.
He says when the officer took cover and retaliated, the suspect ran into a shop and held two people hostage.
Brigadier Kinana says backup police who were on patrol responded and arrested the man inside the store.
He says the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and fortunately nobody was injured.
