Port Elizabeth police say a protest is underway at the Cleary Park Shopping Centre in the city's northern areas.
Police captain Stanley Jarvis says a group of around 50 people are burning tyres in a street behind the centre, and it is unclear what the protest is all about.
He says police are monitoring the situation.
In Queenstown, police are keeping an eye on a peaceful protest by municipal workers which started earlier on Tuesday.
Motorists are advised to avoid the main road - Cathcart road - where the protest is taking place.
