Police Minister, Bheki Cele, will lead the one-year anniversary commemoration of the Ngcobo police station shooting in the town on Thursday.
Five police members and an off-duty soldier were killed when members of the Mancoba Seven Angels Ministry near the town attacked the police station on 12 February 2018, stealing firearms in the process.
Days later, several members were killed in a shoot-out with police while six suspects were subsequently arrested and are on trial for the murderous attack.
Minister Cele will be accompanied at Thursday's commemoration by Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga.
Meanwhile, in a tribute to the slain police members, Eastern Cape Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana, described the slain officers as "selfless servants of the people who did not deserve to die the way they did".
She said they were "true warriors who literally died with their boots on".
